Do Kids Need Emotional Health Insurance?
How to Provide Full Coverage for Your Child’s Well Being
Paula Statman believes that all children need “Emotional Health Insurance” to protect them in new or challenging situations. In this informative session she demonstrates how to help kids develop the emotional resources to successfully navigate through life — within their families, at school, and in the community.
Paula poses the question “How do you insure that a child will become an emotionally healthy human being?” She also defines what it means to become “fluent” in your child, and through stories and examples shares how to develop that important skill.
In this session participants will get practical tips for helping children:
- Recognize and identify feelings while they are happening.
- Be good emotional managers and cultivate skills such as maintaining perspective, calming themselves down, and shaking off anxiety or sadness.
- Stay self-motivated and delay gratification and avoid acting in impulsive ways.
- Develop empathy — the ability to notice and correctly interpret the needs and wants of other people.
- Have positive interactions and develop healthy boundaries with others.
- Give, ask for, and receive support.
- Identify and manage risks that will interfere with their healthy development, such as drug and alcohol abuse.
With common sense wisdom delivered in her entertaining, down-to-earth style, Paula delivers a provocative program that motivates participants – parents, other caring adults, and professionals – to insure the emotional health of children.
